Kaieteur Sports – Linden Highway powerhouse Yarrowkabra Secondary School crowned themselves champions of the prestigious Pure Diamond Inc. Secondary Schools Tapeball Cricket Championship last Sunday at the National Park tarmac, producing a dominant performance to secure the 2026 title.

In a commanding display, Yarrowkabra outclassed a determined St. Joseph High side by nine wickets in the final, underlining their batting strength in emphatic fashion.

Yarrowkabra Secondary defeated St Joseph High by nine wickets to lift the Pure Diamond Tapeball trophy.

The championship clash followed two gripping semifinal encounters. Yarrowkabra booked their place in the final with victory over Diamond Secondary, while St. Joseph High showed their mettle by overcoming Christ Church Secondary to set up the title showdown.

After the semifinals, St. Joseph High won the toss and elected to bat but found scoring difficult against a disciplined Yarrowkabra attack. Leon James led the charge with the ball, claiming 3-19 to restrict St. Joseph to 47-6 from their allotted overs. Savir Narine stood firm amid the pressure, top-scoring with a resilient 28.

In reply, Yarrowkabra wasted little time asserting control. James returned to spearhead the chase alongside Nicoli Morris, the pair combining effectively to guide their team to 49-1 in just 3.2 overs. James struck a fluent 31, while Morris supported with a composed 11, sealing a comfortable nine-wicket victory.

Yarrowkabra Secondary School lifted the championship trophy and received medals for their triumph, with Leon James earning Player of the Tournament honours for his outstanding all-round performance.

The event was supported by sponsors including Mike’s Pharmacy, Cummings Electrical and the National Parks Commission.

Attention now turns to the next major secondary schools’ boys’ competition, scheduled for Indian Arrival Day on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the National Park tarmac from 09:00h. Organiser James Lewis and the Guyana Organisation of Amateur Power Cricket (GOAPC) are also calling on corporate Guyana to support the continued development of young talent in a structured and enjoyable environment.
