Youghestir Bachan (107*) inspires West Coast Warriors to 7-wicket victory at Commonwealth League Cricket in New York

Kaieteur Sports – Former Senior Essequibo Inter-County player Youghestir Bachan struck a responsible, unbeaten 107 to inspire West Coast Warriors to a commanding, 7-wicket win over Gotham Cricket Club in their second-round match at the 2026 Commonwealth Cricket League 30-over Division 2 tournament.

On Sunday at Cunningham Park in New York, the left-handed Bachan stroked nine fours and clobbered five sixes during his 72-ball display at the crease as West Coast Warriors reached 195-3 with 9-balls to spare.

Gotham Cricket Club had earlier won the toss and opted to take first knock but only managed an inadequate 193-7 from the reduced 25-overs. The reduction of the overs was owing to rain.

After opening batter Bachan lost his partner Rajendra Khan (19), he and skipper Kevin Christian posted up a quick-fire 32 runs for the second wicket.

Christian, the ex-Guyana youth player, contributed 25.

Bachan also shared a steady, 88-run unbroken fourth-wicket stand with Avi Dhanpaul who kept the innings flourishing with an elegant 34.

For Gotham Cricket Club, skipper Gopinath Premnath hit a top-score of 52 which contained three sixes and similar number of fours.

Jeevtesh Singh also recorded a half-century by making exactly 50 and 43 from Dweep Barot as seamer Rajin Rahoman claimed 3-44 from five overs on a placid pitch.

Meanwhile, the opening-round fixture was abandoned due to rain.

However, the action is slated to resume on Sunday. West Coast Warriors will clash with Empire Strikers while Gotham Cricket Club and Pehowa Warriors will do battle.

The curtains are expected to come down late September with a grand finale. Twelve teams are currently participating.
