Kaieteur Sports – All-rounder Romario Shepherd bludgeoned a fifty while the veteran Mohammad Nabi played his role nicely to help the Guyana Amazon Warriors come from way behind to steal an empathic win over the Desert Vipers when action continued last night at Providence.
The Vipers posted 205-6 from their 20 overs batting first, after an eye-catching half-century from South African Rilee Rossouw.
The left-hander led with 61 off 48 (5×4 1×6) which was centered around the Vipers structuring their innings perfectly around the experienced South African.
Romario Shepherd registered the fastest fifty of the tournament to shift the balance of the game. (GSL)
Vipers were heavily indebted to the pair of West Indian Kyle Mayers who nailed 3 sixes and 3 fours in his 18-ball 35, New Zealand’s Bevon Jacobs who scored 30 off 17 (1×4 2×6) and gloveman Vriitya Aravind’s 11-ball 28* (6×4); provided the shot in the arm needed for a late push by the Desert Vipers.
Only Warriors skipper Imran Tahir (2-37) and Nabi (1-25), managed to somewhat escape punishment dished out by Roussow and the middle/lower order crew.
Warriors, 206-8 in 19.3 overs, had a successful chase as Shepherd hammered 6 sixes and two fours in his 51 off 21 deliveries alongside Nabi, who finished on 40* off 29 (3×4 3×6): as the two piled on 91 for the 8th wicket.
Vipers bowling was carried by their star-studded spin unit in West Indies left-armer Khary Pierre (2-37), skipper Shadab Khan (3-40) and breakout West Indies young leg-spinner, Vitel Lawes (2-31).
Warriors chase got off to a blistering start racing to 55-1 by the 5th over thanks to Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s 31 off 15 (2×4 3×6) and Quentin Sampson pummeling 35 off 17 balls (4×4 3×6).
Warriors would slide from 50-odd for the loss of a wicket all the way to 95-7 before Shepherd and Nabi took the score to 186-8 before the former was dismissed at a bad time.
Nabi and Dwaine Pretorius (17*) then kept their cool to see the Warriors home, as they will regroup ahead of their second successive match set for tonight against the Lahore Qalandars. (Clifton Ross)
