Permaul and Peterson lead Team Guyana as Flag Bearers at CAC Games Opening Ceremony
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Archery’s Devin Permaul and Taekwondo’s Ceili Peterson proudly carried the Golden Arrowhead during the Opening Ceremony of the XXV Central American and Caribbean ( on Friday at the iconic Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, leading Team Guyana into the historic centennial edition of the region’s premier multi-sport event.
The honour recognizes two outstanding athletes whose commitment, dedication and excellence embody the values of Team Guyana and the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA).
Permaul, one of Guyana’s most experienced archers, has represented the nation at several major international multi-sport games and continues to be among the country’s leading archers. He currently holds a World Archery ranking of 451, with a career-best world ranking of 157, reflecting years of dedication and consistent international competition.

Peterson is one of Guyana’s leading elite taekwondo athletes and competes internationally in the Women’s -49kg division. Balancing high-performance sport with her academic studies in kinesiology, she has represented Guyana at several prestigious international competitions, including the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago and the 2025 FISU World University Games. Among her notable achievements is a silver medal at the 51st Dutch Open Taekwondo Championships in October 2024.
The pair form part of Team Guyana’s 55-member delegation, which is competing across 10 sporting disciplines at the Games.
The 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, being held from 24 July to 8 August in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, commemorate the 100th anniversary of the oldest continuously staged regional multi-sport event. The spectacular Opening Ceremony at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium featured more than 200 performers, vibrant cultural presentations and an impressive drone light display celebrating a century of sporting excellence throughout the region.
The Guyana Olympic Association congratulates Devin Permaul and Ceili Peterson on the distinction of serving as Team Guyana’s flag bearers and extends its best wishes to all Guyanese athletes and officials as they proudly represent the nation throughout the Games.
