Travis Belgrave’s game-winner hands Guyana historic first Commonwealth Games 3×3 victory

Kaieteur Sports – Travis Belgrave delivered a moment of history for Guyana on Friday, sinking the game-winning basket as the national men’s 3×3 team defeated the Cayman Islands 21-17 to register the country’s first-ever victory in 3×3 basketball at the Commonwealth Games.
The win came after a challenging start to Guyana’s debut appearance in the event, with the team opening its campaign in a 21-14 defeat to hosts Scotland before suffering a 21-3 loss to New Zealand.

Needing a positive response in their final match of the opening day, the quartet of Anish Ramlall, Travis Belgrave, Christian Hinckson and Kevin Mickle rose to the occasion with a composed performance to secure the landmark win.
Ramlall, who endured a difficult outing against New Zealand, bounced back in impressive fashion, leading all Guyana scorers with nine points.
Belgrave added seven points, including the decisive basket that sealed the victory.

Mickle continued his solid debut at the Commonwealth Games, contributing four points while playing a key role on the defensive end, controlling the boards and helping Guyana limit the Cayman Islands’ second-chance opportunities.
Hinckson also played an important supporting role as Guyana maintained its composure in the closing stages.
The victory marks a significant milestone for Guyana, which is making its first appearance in the 3×3 basketball competition at the Commonwealth Games.
Guyana will return to action on Sunday to conclude the group stage with matches against Nigeria and Australia as they continue their pursuit of a place in the knockout rounds.
