Slingerz FC march into CFU Caribbean Shield quarter-finals with dramatic victory in T&T
Kaieteur Sports – Guyana’s premier football club, Slingerz FC, continued its impressive debut campaign in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Shield by securing a thrilling 4-3 victory over Trinidad and Tobago’s Prison Service FC to advance to the quarter-finals.
Playing at the iconic Haysley Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain on Saturday, Slingerz overcame a determined home side in a pulsating contest, with Derrel Garcia striking a dramatic late winner to seal the club’s second consecutive victory of the tournament.
Slingerz FC ahead of their clash with Prison Services FC in the CFU Club Shield in Trinidad and Tobago.
The win books Slingerz a quarter-final showdown against Suriname’s Robin Hood on Tuesday, with the Guyanese side now just one step away from the semi-finals.
Jamaican striker Kemar Beckford once again proved why he has become the focal point of Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz’s attacking unit, producing another clinical performance with a brace.
Beckford opened the scoring in the 17th minute before doubling his tally in the 58th minute, continuing the rich vein of form he has displayed since joining the club.

He would’ve also scored twice in Slingerz FC’s previous win in the tournament.
Neron Borrow, who also found the net in Slingerz’s opening victory over SWA Sharks, added his name to the scoresheet again with a goal in the 67th minute to keep the Guyanese outfit firmly in the contest.
With the match finely poised, heading into the closing stages, Garcia struck in the 90th minute, moments before stoppage time, to snatch a dramatic winner and hand Slingerz a memorable victory.
The result underscores Slingerz’s attacking quality and resilience, qualities that have been on full display throughout their maiden appearance in the CFU Caribbean Shield.
Having already announced themselves with an opening win over SWA Sharks, the Guyanese champions have now made an emphatic statement on the regional stage and will carry significant momentum into Tuesday’s quarter-final clash against Robin Hood as they continue their quest for Caribbean silverware.
