Kaieteur Sports – Street football excitement is set to return to the capital city as the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Championship resumes with its highly anticipated Georgetown leg, scheduled to run from April 15 to May 1 at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac.
Following a brief pause in the 2025 competition, organisers are eager to reignite the energy and community spirit synonymous with the tournament. The Georgetown leg will unfold across six match days—April 15, 17, 23, 24, and 29—culminating in the zone final on May 1.

Attending the launch were (L-R) Mortimer Stuart, Banks DIH Outdoor Events Manager, PRO Sonia Forester, Brand Manager Jeoff Clement, Safisha Hope of Colours Boutique, and Sales and Marketing Executive, Lee Baptiste.
The tournament will feature 32 teams competing in a straight knockout format, promising high-intensity action from the opening whistle. Among the teams set to battle for early dominance are Alexander Village, Belfield Make It Happen, Team Immaculate, Festival City, Broad Street, Gold is Money, Sparta Boss, Island All Stars, Rising Stars, East Coast All Stars, California Square, Sophia All Stars, Team Spirit Stevedore, and East Bank Ballers.
The official launch was held at Banks DIH’s Thirst Park Headquarters, where key representatives, including Outdoor Events Manager Mortimer Stuart, Public Relations Officer Sonia Forester, Sales and Marketing Executive Lee Baptiste, and Guinness Brand Manager Jeoff Clement, met with sponsor representative Safisha Hope of Colours Boutique, confirming match schedules and teams updates ahead of kickoff.
Speaking at the launch, Clement expressed optimism about the tournament’s return, emphasizing discipline and competitiveness. “We are expecting the usual high level of competition, but more importantly, discipline of the highest standard as we continue to build the Guinness brand,” he said. He also urged players and officials to adhere strictly to tournament rules and conditions as the competition progresses toward the national stage.
Baptiste echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the tournament’s cultural significance. “As the brand that introduced street football as a competitive sport, we look forward to clean, entertaining football. This tournament has always been a proud moment—not just for the brand, but for communities. It brings positive energy and unity back to the playing spaces,” he noted.
At stake is a lucrative grand prize of $1,000,000 for the Georgetown champions. The runner-up will receive $400,000, while third- and fourth-place finishers will earn $200,000 and $100,000, respectively.
Following the conclusion of the Georgetown leg, attention will shift to the national championship, which is set to kick off on May 8 and will bring together the best teams from across the country.
The Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ continues to enjoy support from Colours Boutique as its primary sponsor, with additional backing from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Guyana Police Force, and the Guyana Fire Service.
With anticipation building, Guinness supports can expect electrifying performances as teams vie not only for cash prizes, but for pride and supremacy in one of Guyana’s most celebrated street football competitions.
