Kaieteur Sports – Backed by a Most Valuable Player (MVP) performance from Anish Ramlall, and strong all-round support from Shelroy Thomas, Kimol Grimmond and Stephen George, “GT Ballers” were crowned winners of the Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) National 3×3 Championship on Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
GT Ballers delivered a dominant and composed display in the final, defeating perennial contenders Renegades 21–14 to cap an unbeaten run through the tournament.
Having finished the pool play with an unblemished record, GT Ballers made light work of the South American Youth Games squad in the semi-finals, defeating the young squad 21 – 12.
The team, made up of Jaden Simon, Kadeem Beckles and Daniel Chisholm, would eventually finish third.
Renegades, on the other hand, ended Linden Ballers run in the tournament at the semi-finals, winning 17 – 8 at the end of the 10-minute regulation time.
The championship clash saw GT Ballers assert themselves from the outset, relying on crisp ball movement, efficient shooting and disciplined defence to seize early control.
Ramlall, who emerged as the tournament’s leading scorer with 49 points across five games, led from the front with his attacking intent, while Grimmond provided valuable scoring support.
Thomas played a key role in controlling the tempo and converting in the paint, and even adding to the team’s defensive solidity and timely contributions to ensure Renegades were kept at bay throughout the contest.
Renegades, featuring experienced campaigners Nikkoloi Smith, Travis Belgrave, Dominic Vicente and Akil Hughes, showed flashes of their quality but struggled to match the cohesion and pace of their opponents.
Although they remained within touching distance during the early exchanges, they were unable to contain GT Ballers’ scoring bursts as the game progressed.
The 21–14 scoreline underscored GT Ballers’ control, particularly in the latter stages when they executed with precision to close out the contest in regulation.
GT Ballers’ path to the title was built on commanding performances in the preliminary round, where they secured victories over Renegades, Titans and Young Ballers in Pool A.
Their blend of offensive firepower and defensive discipline proved decisive, and they carried that momentum into the knockout stage to remain unbeaten en route to the title.
While Renegades also benefited from balanced scoring, they lacked the same fluidity and execution in key moments.
The championship formed part of Guyana’s preparation for its debut in 3×3 basketball at the upcoming Commonwealth Games, and concluded a five-day national training camp organised by the GBF, with support from the Guyana Olympic Association.
