Kaieteur Sports – Gritty fifties from Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Kemol Savory kept the Guyana Harpy Eagles circling close to their target, as they trail the Windward Volcanoes by 29 runs with a wicket in hand, heading into an all-important 3rd day of action in Antigua at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Guyana resumed day 2 with a 284 run deficit facing them, after keeping the Volcanoes to a 1st innings score of 286, but managed to clear off a decent chunk of runs thanks to Chanderpaul, who set the tone for what will be a watchful chase, by grafting a 179-ball 70 with 8 fours.
Savory put the middle-order on his back, punching 8 fours and 2 sixes as he anchored in for his 77 off 158 deliveries, before falling to spinner Kenneth Dember (3-50) who wrapped up the innings to good effect.
The Eagles finished a tough second day with the score 257-9 from 86 overs and barely holding on entering a crucial passage of play on day 3.
Windwards had a mixed bowling innings with the pair of medium-pacers in Gilson Tyson (4-64) and Ryan John (2-52) doing the lion’s share of the damage.
Earlier, resuming on 2 runs, the Windies Test opener, Chanderpaul, kept the Eagles afloat after significant losses to the top/middle-order, when both Matthew Nandu (4) and Kevlon Anderson (4) were removed by Tyson.
Captain Tevin Imlach (23) hung around for 53 balls before John had both the Eagles skipper and opener Chanderpaul trapped LBW.
Savory kept his head on and eventually went past 50 in the afternoon session, despite losing a much-needed aggressor in Keemo Paul (1); who was caught behind to give Tyson his third scalp.
Guyana eventually reached 200 after, but more importantly depended on the mental control of Savory with stumps on the second day soon approaching.
But Dember would land a huge blow to remove the left-hander Savory, who did all the hard work but failed to carry his bat to stumps, leaving Raymond Perez unbeaten on 4 when stumps arrived.
In other games, Leewards Hurricanes (168 all out 1st innings) trail Trinidad and Tobago Red Force (380-5 1st innings) by 242 runs.
Barbados Pride (348 all out 1st innings) lead Jamaica Scorpions (230-6 1st innings) by 118 runs.
Action continues today.

By Sir Ronald Sanders (Kaieteur News) – When the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran was announced on 7th April, 2026, the immediate reaction across much of the world was relief.
