(Kaieteur News) – Five men, including a 17-year-old, are in police custody after a firearm and ammunition were discovered in a vehicle during a routine operation in Agricola on Thursday evening.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Thursday detailed that around 17:34hrs, ranks on mobile patrol, acting on information received, intercepted a white Toyota Axio with five male occupants.
“A search of the motor car was conducted and under the front passenger seat one Ruger 9mm pistol with a magazine containing four (4) live rounds of 9mm ammunition was discovered,” police said.
The suspects have been identified as a 17-year-old from ‘B’ Field, Sophia; a 21-year-old taxi driver, also from ‘B’ Field; a 20-year-old labourer from Kitty; a 34-year-old labourer from ‘B’ Field, Sophia; and a 23-year-old construction worker from Cummings Park.
They were arrested and taken to the Ruimveldt Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were lodged pending further investigation.
Police have confirmed that none of the men have a firearm license.
The five suspects remain in custody as authorities continue their probe into the source and intent behind the weapon.
