Kaieteur Sports – Slingerz Football Club and the Guyana Police Force FC will clash in what promises to be a thrilling finale of the GFF Elite League Cup tomorrow evening at the National Training Centre, after both sides battled through tense semi-final encounters.
The stage was set on Wednesday night as Slingerz FC produced a strong comeback performance to defeat Western Tigers 3–1 in the opening semi-final, while Police FC edged their disciplinary rivals, the Guyana Defence Force FC, to book their place in the championship match.
Slingerz entered the contest with added motivation, keen to avenge their narrow 1–0 defeat to Western Tigers Football Club in the Super 16 Cup final on New Year’s Day.

Jamaican forward Kemar Beckford times his shot perfectly as he scores his second goal against Western Tigers in the Elite League Cup semi-finals.
However, the Tigers looked poised to repeat their success when Stephon Reynolds struck early, firing his side into the lead in the 13th minute.
The defending Elite League champions regrouped quickly and found their equaliser midway through the first half. Jamaican striker Kemar Beckford finished clinically in the 26th minute to restore parity and shift the momentum in favour of Slingerz.
With the match finely balanced, defender Lloyd Matthews rose to the occasion in the second half, putting Slingerz ahead in the 61st minute with a well-taken goal that further energized his teammates.
Western Tigers pressed forward in search of a response, but Slingerz sealed the victory deep in stoppage time when Beckford returned to complete his brace in the 94th minute, securing a 3–1 triumph and sending his side into the final.
In the other semi-final, the clash between the disciplinary forces lived up to its billing as Guyana Police Force FC and Guyana Defence Force FC battled for supremacy.
Police FC struck first through Makayah Jervis, who broke the deadlock in the 38th minute to give the lawmen the advantage heading into the break.
The soldiers responded with increased urgency after the restart, but Police maintained their composure and doubled their lead in the 65th minute when Beveney McGarrell found the back of the net from the penalty spot, ensuring a hard-fought victory and a place in the final.
The upcoming showdown will mark the first time Slingerz FC and Police FC meet in a final, adding further intrigue to what is already shaping up to be a historic encounter.
For Slingerz, the match represents an opportunity to claim their first trophy of 2026 and continue their strong domestic run as defending Elite League champions.
Meanwhile, the stakes are even higher for the men from Eve Leary, who have been without silverware in the league for years.
Police FC’s last notable win came in 2018 when they captured the Limacol Championships, defeating Pouderoyen Football Club 4–2 at the Ministry of Education Ground.
