(Kaieteur News) – Three men from Region One (Barima-Waini) were on Wednesday charged with driving under the influence of alcohol when they appeared at the Mabaruma Magistrates’ Court.
Ricardo Boyer, Clive Henry, and Murphy Samuels were all charged with exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit while behind the wheel, under Section 39A (1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.
They appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse who read the charge to them.
Boyer, who faced two counts of driving while intoxicated, pleaded guilty to both.
For the first offence, he was fined $200,000 – or three-months’ imprisonment in default while he was fined $300,000 for four months’ imprisonment for the second charge.
Further, Boyer’s licence was suspended for six months.
Meanwhile, Henry and Samuels pleaded guilty to the offence and were both fined $200,000-, or three-months’ imprisonment in default of payment.
