(Kaieteur News) – A 24-year-old mason was arrested on Wednesday after he was found with a firearm at a social event in Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Region 10.
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force on Thursday, the discovery took place around 00:10hrs.
Police reported that while conducting duties at the event, officers observed the suspect behaving suspiciously near the stage area.
“During the operation, ranks were performing duties at a social event when a male was seen acting in a suspicious manner near the stage area. As such, he was contacted by ranks and a search was conducted on his person,” police said.
During the search, a 9mm pistol was found hidden in the suspect’s pants pocket. The firearm was immediately seized, and the man, a resident of Block 22, Wismar, was taken into custody.
The suspect was taken to the Mackenzie Police Station, where the firearm was lodged as part of ongoing investigations.
Police are continuing their inquiries, with the 24-year-old remaining in custody as they await further questioning.
