The United States and Israel continue to bombard Iran, killing at least 1,230 people since Saturday, as the Israeli military issues forced evacuation orders for the entirety of Beirut’s southern suburbs, home to hundreds of thousands.
The deadliest single incident occurred in the city of Minab in southeastern Iran, where a strike on an elementary girls school, Aljazeera reported on Thursday. Hossein Kermanpour, the head of public relations at Iran’s Health Ministry, says the Israeli attack on the girls’ school in Minab on Sunday has killed “about 180 young children,” Aljazeera has reported.
US forces have struck nearly 2,000 targets in Iran since Saturday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees US forces in the region, said on Tuesday. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has launched attacks on at least 27 bases in the Middle East where US troops are deployed as well as Israeli military facilities in Tel Aviv and other parts of Israel. In total, Iran has launched 500 missiles and 2,000 drones during the first four days of hostilities, according to Admiral Brad Cooper, the head of CENTCOM. So far, Iran has launched strikes across nine countries in the region: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. An Iranian drone also struck a runway at a UK military base in Cyprus. Most of these attacks have been intercepted.

“We have declared repeatedly that if there are bases on the borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran belonging to the United States, and they will benefit from these bases, they will be targeted,” he said, from the Iranian Embassy in Egypt’s capital, Cairo, adding that the war extends beyond military engagement.
“It’s a comprehensive war. It’s cyber warfare. It’s an economic war. It’s a political and security war. … This is a war in all fields.”
The Associated Press reported on Thursday that Iran is not engaged in any direct or indirect communication with the United States to bring an end to the widening war, Iran’s ambassador to Egypt told AP Thursday, denying comments by Trump that the country “wants to talk.”
“That’s not true,” the ambassador, Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour, said. “I think that’s a very weak and inaccurate statement, and it’s not credible.”
He said a lack of trust makes any such engagement impossible after talks for a possible nuclear deal twice failed and ended with the war.
“There will be no trust in Trump,” he said.
Meanwhile, Aljazeera reported that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned of “terrorist movements” on the country’s border with Iraq and called for measures to bolster security there amid reports that the US is in talks with Kurdish forces in a bid to arm them and foment an uprising against Tehran.
Senior Iranian official Ali Larijani said Iran was ready and “waiting” for any American ground invasion. The conflict has throttled global oil and gas supplies, with cargo vessels avoiding the vital Strait of Hormuz after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced its closure.
