Kaieteur Sports – Action in the North Essequibo Cricket Committee Chunilall Balgobin Memorial T20 Competition involving 10 area teams that are divided into two groups, got underway over the weekend.
Teams are battling for $1,000,000 in cash and prizes, in a tournament being played in memory of the late Mr Chunilall Balgobin, who was a former Chairman of the North Essequibo Cricket Committee.
Matches are being played at the Joe Jagmohan Cricket Ground, Sparta Cricket Ground, Reliance Sports Club Ground, Walton Hall Ground and Richmond United Ground.
In results from Group A: Richmond United scored 184-7 vs Walton Hall, with Basil Persaud 44, R. Bholo 35, T. Boodram 25. Bowling for Walton Hall N. Manbahadur took 3-24, L. Singh 2-37.
Walton Hall replied with 112-10 off 14.4 overs to lose by 72 runs. L. Singh 18 and U. Balgobin 16 were the top scorers. Bowling for Richmond United, T. Stephney took 3-18 and P. Singh 3-22.
Match 2: Walton Hall Junior beat Young Achievers. Young Achievers scored 92-10 off 15 overs with C. Gopaul 45. Anthony Persaud claimed 5-9 and Kevin Singh 2-13. Walton Hall replied with 93-5 off 12 .1. Manoj Lall 29 and Kevin Singh 12 led the victory.
Over in Group B: Renegades edged Affiance. Renegades reached 147-6 with Sydney Peters 59 and Eron Benjamin 57, while Shaziff Mohammed took 2-36 for Affiance, who replied with 146-7 off their 20 overs. Parmesh Parsotam piloted the reply with 68 and Amit Persuad 22. Sydney Peters 2-17 and Mark Gonsalves 2-27 were the successful bowlers.
DC Titans got the better of Sparwin. DC Titans rattled up 148-8 in their 20 overs with Avinash Persaud 57, Dinesh Chattergoon 33 and Gavindra Sharma 30. Benny Persuad took 3-24 and Shane Paul 2-20 for Sparwin who replied with 77-10 in their 20 overs.
Anmole Persaud 24 and Benny Persuad 16 led their batting effort as Beesham Moses 2-5 and Dinesh Chattergoon 2-2 led the rout.
