(Kaieteur News) – Three armed, masked men dressed in camouflage attire carted off with an undisclosed amount of raw gold from a mining camp located at 68 Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven on Friday.
During the armed robbery several persons, including a 58-year-old Brazilian national, were injured.
According to a statement from the police, the incident occurred between 08:30hrs and 11:00hrs.
Police said that the information received so far “indicates that three masked English, Portuguese and Spanish speaking males, dressed in camouflage and armed with firearms arrived at the mining camp and held the workers at gunpoint before escaping with an undisclosed quantity of raw gold.”
Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) were dispatched to the location to investigate the robbery. Efforts are ongoing to locate the suspects.
