Pilot attempts to leave Guyana with raw gold
(Kaieteur News) – A 48-year-old Guyanese-Canadian pilot was on Thursday found with 0.563 of raw gold in his luggage at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspected raw gold was found in the luggage of a 48-year-old pilot and Guyanese-born Canadian citizen, who was an outgoing passenger destined for Toronto, Canada,” police said.
The pilot was asked whether he was the holder of a gold export licence to which he responded in the negative.
The incident was reported and the pilot was detained. The raw gold was weighed in his presence after which it was lodged and subsequently taken for testing.
Investigations are ongoing.
