Kaieteur Sports – Berbice Powerlifter Fazim Abdool of the Iron Strength Barbell Gym of Rosignol village, on Sunday 30th November, 2025, cemented himself among a very short list of Guyanese strongmen and those from Berbice.

Fazim Abdool is congratulated on the podium after his performance which included a Bench Press of over 500lbs.
Abdool, competing in the Senior National Championships Equipped competition at St Stanislaus College, won two gold medals during the event. However, the highlight of his performance, was his Bench Press in which he achieved, according to him, ‘his life’s dream of benching 500lbs and over’, where he joined the elite group of only two other men to have bench pressed over 500 in the history of powerlifting in Guyana.
Most importantly he became the only Berbician to have ever achieved this milestone of a 501lbs Bench Press in an International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) sanctioned competition.
