Kaieteur Sports – Parika Defenders beat Essequibo Coast-based team Invaders by one wicket in a T20 Over-50 softball match on Sunday at Reliance Sport ground, Essequibo Coast, Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
Invaders took first strike after winning the toss and tallied up a competitive 154-9 at the expiration of the 20-overs.
Parika Defenders responded with 155-9 with one ball remaining.
Experienced opener Uniss Yusuf led the way for the visitors with 35 while he got support from Teddy Manchand wirth 25.
Devanand Kannan and Yuvraj Singh added 22 and 19 respectively.
Wayne Moore grabbed 3-34 from his maximum four overs and Rishie Bishop collecting 2-24 (04).
Earlier, Fazeer Mohammed hit a top-score for Invaders with 33. Skipper and former Essequibo Senior Inter-County player Latchmikant Narine stroke 33 and 22 from Eshwar Singh.
Shiek Alli was the star-bowler for Parika Defenders nabbing 4-31 off four overs.
Persaud and Yuvraj Singh also accounted for two victims.
At the post-match presentation ceremony, Parika Defenders received a trophy along with the runners-up side.
Yusif was chosen as the best-batter and Alli as the best-bowler. Both took home a trophy each.
Trophies were sponsored by V&J Supermarket of Parika and Layne’s Agri Electronics and Marine Shop of Three Friends, Essequibo Coast.
Managing Director of V&J Supermarket Kenrick Persaud thanked the teams for their participation and expressed delight to be one of the sponsors for the game.
Organizer Wakeel Layne echoed similar sentiments and informed that they will have another encounter soon.
