Promising Berbice cricketer dies after crashing into tractor
(Kaieteur News) – The tragic death of a well-known young cricketer has left many along the West Coast of Berbice in deep mourning.
Ayinde Rogers, age 21, of Lo 177 ‘B’, No.22 Village (Bel Air), WCB, succumbed to critical injuries he sustained after he reportedly crashed motorcar # PWW 2900 into a tractor that was parked along the No. 28 Public Road, Corentyne around 12:05am on Monday.

Based on preliminary investigations, Rogers was headed west along the No. 28 Public Road allegedly at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the front portion of the stationary motor tractor, which was parked on the northern parapet facing east. As a result of the impact, the motor car toppled on the northern parapet.
Rogers suffered injuries about his body due to the collision. He was extracted from the mangled vehicle by public-spirited citizens in an unconscious condition and taken to the Bath Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
The body was escorted to Bailey’s Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Charmayne White, mother of the deceased, told Kaieteur News that the tragic incident has devastated her, as preparations are underway to bury her only child, who was a professional cricketer. The final mother and son moment, she related, was when he returned home inquiring what meal she had prepared, just about 7:00pm.
“He went out yesterday and he played the cricket match. He send me a message and asked me what I cooked, and he said keep some food for him in a food box, he’s coming to pick it up, ‘I’m going out to lime with them boys and come back, at least by 9’,” White recalled her son saying.
A call from an undisclosed individual not long after conveyed the grim news.
“Somebody called me and asked where is my location, and I said I’m at home. They asked me if I heard what went wrong with Ayinde, and I said no, and the young lady told me what transpired.”
Startled, White recalled proceeding to the location where the accident occurred. As she arrived, she observed a crowd gathered, and advancing further, she saw her son lying at the road corner.
She confirmed that the vehicle he was driving at the time belonged to one of his friends.
The grieving mother shared too that her son’s love of cricket was making inroads for him.
“He had a prospect going for him, not just for the love of it. He normally plays for the Achievers Club, plus he plays for the Guyana Defense Force,” White explained.
Moreover, she highlighted that a strong bond existed between the two.
“We had a lovely relationship. A very loving relationship. All sorts of jokes we make together, all sorts of things we did together. I will really miss him.”
