Kaieteur Sports – The Westside Golf Course Skills Challenge, proudly sponsored by the Acado Guyana Group, was a smashing success as first-time and seasoned golfers showcased their precision and distance control in two exciting skills competitions.
The event attracted an enthusiastic field of participants, highlighting the growing popularity of golf in Guyana and the unique, beginner-friendly format offered at the Westside Golf Course.
In the Men’s Division, spectators witnessed a thrilling comeback as Feroz Singh produced an outstanding late performance to claim first place. Rene Hudson finished a strong second, while Afrwaz Baksh proudly defended the sponsors’ honour by securing third place.

The GGA and Acado Group Guyana hosted an exciting skills challenge tournament this last Sunday at the West Side Golf Club.
The Women’s Division proved to be the most dramatic contest of the day. After several playoff rounds to separate the competitors, Shavana Ramlakan emerged victorious, with Anusha Singh taking second place, Carol Ramroop finishing third, and Nicola Raghunanan placing fourth.
The Junior Division also produced impressive performances, with Czavier Raghunanan capturing first place and Eton Ramroop securing second.
Special recognition prizes were also presented to Adrian Savory, JorgeLuis Echevarria , Dave Ramroop, Suraj Singh, Bashur Khan, Sean Ramoutar, Ravin Nandalall and Robert Hossein for their outstanding performances in the competition.
Speaking after the tournament, representatives of the Acado Guyana Group expressed their delight with the event.
“We are extremely happy to be associated with this highly competitive form of golf at the Westside Golf Course. It is an innovative way to introduce new players to the sport while developing their skills through fun and competitive challenges.”
The tournament was sanctioned by the Guyana Golf Association. President Aleem Hussain praised the continued growth of grassroots golf in Guyana.
“The turnout we continue to see week after week at the Westside Golf Course and the engagement of so many new players is extremely heartening. We thank the host course and its dedicated staff—Yosiel, Vianis, Shavana, Anusha, and Dave—for their outstanding support and commitment to growing the game.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the CPCE Physical Education Cohorts 2024–2026 for donating the trophies, as well as our valued long-term supporters—Comfort Sleep, Trophy Stall, Royal Castle Guyana, Madewini Gardens Eco Resort, and Toolsie Persaud Ltd.—whose generous contributions have helped make these programmes possible.”
The Skills Challenge is part of the Westside Golf Course’s ongoing mission to make golf affordable, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone. Through innovative competitions and beginner-friendly activities, hundreds of new players have been introduced to the sport over the past year, helping to strengthen Guyana’s rapidly expanding golf community.
The next Skills Challenge and other exciting golf activities at the Westside Golf Course will be announced shortly, with players of all ages and skill levels encouraged to participate.
