(Kaieteur Sports) – The Westside Golf Course will now serve as a regular venue for Physical Education activities for schools across Region Three.

The West Side Golf Course has seen a huge turnout by students from schools across the region, as part of Friday’s Physical Education programme.
This exciting initiative officially began this week, following the introduction of golf to educators by Regional Education Officer (REDO) Mr. Akbar Chintu.
The programme forms part of a broader national initiative by the Ministry of Education, under the directive of His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali, to ensure that all students actively participate in Physical Education activities.
“With its large, manicured fairways, the Westside Golf Course is the perfect facility for schools that have limited space for PE activities. The Education Department is extremely grateful to Mr. Hussain for providing the venue for our use,” said REO Mr. Hardyal.
According to Mr. Hussain, “The Guyana Golf Association and Westside Golf Course will continue to provide access to all students at no cost for PE activities. In addition, we will teach them the fundamentals of golf, which can be taken as an elective subject for the CSEC examinations.”
Mr. Hussain added, “Westside Golf Course was designed and built by me in honor of my mother, Shafura BaghKhan-Hussain of Leguan, in collaboration with Mr. Ronald Sami and his family. This is our way of giving back to our community.”
Beyond PE Fridays, the public is welcome to visit the Westside Golf Course for golf, lessons, or simple relaxation at the open-air clubhouse, which offers food, beverages, and Igloo Ice Cream in a peaceful and scenic setting.
