Fisherman stabbed to death at Golden Grove

(Kaieteur News) – A 55-year-old fisher man identified by police as Elton Lilly, called “Daddy,” lost his life on Sunday after he was repeatedly stabbed by a 49-year-old security guard.

Police said an investigation has been launched into the incident which occurred around 23:05hrs at the Golden Grove Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased and the suspect, who are known to each other, were imbibing at a bar when an altercation reportedly ensued between them. During the confrontation, the suspect armed himself with a knife and attacked Lilly, police said.

Ranks responded to the report and when they arrived Lilly was observed lying in a pool of blood with several stab wounds about his body. The suspected murder weapon- a knife was found in the bar’s vicinity and was retrieved and secured.

Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene, where the deceased was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. His body was subsequently identified by a male relative and escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination, police added. The suspect who hails from South Haslington was arrested and is currently in police custody assisting with the investigations.
