Kaieteur Sports – Old Fort and SHC Sigma were crowned Under-17 champions at the 2025 National Junior Hockey Tournament, following dramatic victories in their respective finals on Sunday.
Sponsored by Igloo Ice Cream and Sunshine Snacks, this year’s championship concluded in thrilling fashion at the National Gymnasium, with Old Fort and Saints also securing gold in the Under-21 divisions.
In the Girls’ U17 final, Old Fort and SHC Sensation battled to a tense 1-1 draw. The match was ultimately decided by penalty strokes, with Old Fort prevailing 2-1 to claim the title.
The Boys’ U17 final was equally gripping. GCC Outlaws held a 2-0 lead against a determined SHC Sigma side, but Sigma clawed back with two late goals to level the match. In the penalty shootout, SHC Sigma held their nerve to secure a 2-0 victory and the championship.
In the Girls’ U21 final, a fourth-minute strike from Charlia Webb was enough to hand Saints a narrow 1-0 win over GCC Spartans. Webb’s decisive performance also earned her the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award, while Isabella Ramjohn was named Best Goalkeeper.
The Boys’ U21 final saw Old Fort dominate SHC S’Team in a 6-2 rout. Shaquon Favorite and Simeon Moore scored early in the 8th and 10th minutes to give Old Fort a 2-0 lead. SHC’s Jabril Lovell responded quickly, but Tournament MVP Yonnick Norton soon stole the spotlight; netting a stunning hat-trick in the space of three minutes to push Old Fort to a 5-1 lead. SHC S’Team managed a second goal in the 17th minute before Favorite struck again to confirm Old Fort’s championship victory.
The Men’s Open final ended in dramatic fashion as Old Fort edged Saints 2-1 on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw in regulation time.
In the Women’s Open division, Saints Women got their revenge over GBTI GCC with a dominant 5-2 win. Standout performances came from Kalya Scott and Clayza Bobb, who each scored twice. Bobb was named MVP of the tournament, while goalkeeper Sarah Harry took home the Best Goalkeeper award.
As the curtain closed on another successful edition of the Junior Hockey Tournament, the Guyana Hockey Board recognized several standout athletes, including; Ketianna Percival (Old Fort Girls), Clayza Bobb and Fayed Mohammed (SHC Sigma), Charlia Webb (Saints) and Matthew Smith (Old Fort U21 Boys)
The Guyana Hockey Board expressed appreciation for the continued support of sponsors Igloo Ice Cream and Sunshine Snacks, whose contributions made the 2025 tournament possible.
