Kaieteur Sports – With the new school term just around the corner, anticipation is mounting as the Petra Organisation gears up to launch one of the most eagerly awaited youth sporting events on the local calendar, the 12th Annual Pee Wee Under-11 Boys Football Championship.

Tentatively set to kick off on September 20, this year’s edition will once again be held at the Ministry of Sport Complex Ground on Carifesta Avenue, pending final confirmation of the official start date.
Dubbed the Courts Optical Pee Wee Football Championship, the tournament will feature 32 primary school teams from across the country, all competing for football glory in a high-energy mix of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Teams will be divided into eight groups of four, competing in a round-robin format. Each school will play three matches within its group, earning three points for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 16, shifting into a knockout stage to decide the eventual champion.
To maintain age integrity, all players must be born on or after January 1, 2014, and each match will last 40 minutes. Teams will field seven players, including a goalkeeper.
This year’s competition offers attractive incentives for both teams and individual performers. The champions will take home a trophy, gold medals, and team uniforms. The runners-up will receive a second-place trophy, silver medals, and six footballs. The third-place team will earn a trophy and four footballs, while fourth place will receive a participation trophy.
Additional individual prizes will be rewarded to the tournament’s MVP, winner of this prize will receive a Trophy and Boots. The Highest Goal Scorer will be awarded a Trophy along with Boots, Best Goal keeper will be rewarded same (Trophy and Boots). A trophy will be up for grabs for the Most Discipline Team.
Speaking via telephone, Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organisation, expressed his enthusiasm:“All procedures have been met. With that being said, we look forward for an exciting start come later this month. The teams are ready to compete. The competition is growing in terms of skill and level of play, so we look forward to an improved brand of Under-11 football.”
The event has once again received the green light from the Ministry of Education, solidifying its importance in the national youth sports agenda.
Looking Back: Last Year’s Champions
The last edition of the tournament saw Santa Rosa Primary lift the coveted title after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Marian Academy in the final. Their disciplined performance and tactical prowess remain fresh in the minds of fans and competitors alike.
