Springer, Austin settles in World Athletics top-20 U20 400m times
Kaieteur Sports- Guyanese athletes Malachi Austin and Tianna Springer’s times posted at the just concluded CARIFTA Games rank them among the world’s top 20 so far this season, according to World Athletics.

Tianna Springer won the Girls U20 400m gold in Trinidad and Tobago, clocking 53.07s, currently the 15th fastest time globally by a U20 athlete this year.
For the 17-year-old, 53.07s is also the fastest time this year in South America, and represents the second quickest performance of her budding career.
Malachi Austin following his silver medal performance in the Boys U20 400m at the CARIFTA Games
Her personal best of 52.31s, set en route to her first U20 gold at last year’s CARIFTA Games, finished 2024 as the world’s 16th fastest U20 performance.
Meanwhile, Malachi Austin’s 46.54s effort in the Boys U20 400m final earned him silver and currently sits 22nd on the U20 world list for 2025 and number one in South America.
The 2024 CARIFTA U20 champion and Commonwealth Youth Games 400m silver medallist closed out last year holding the U20 national record and his own personal best of 46.35s; the 33rd fastest time globally in 2024.
