(Kaieteur News) – In an important partnership between the Uprising Promotions Group and the DC Metro Cricket Organization (DCMCO), the 2026 Secondary School Tapeball Cricket tournament culminated in a thrilling finale on Sunday, with Team West producing an all-round display to defeat Team Warriors by 25 runs and capture the Secondary School Boys’ Tapeball Cricket championship at the National Park tarmac.

Although Team Warriors’ top-order batter Vivick Narine crafted a magnificent half-century in a determined chase, Team West’s disciplined bowling attack kept its composure under pressure to successfully defend 115, ensuring the coveted DCMCO trophy headed west.

Here’s a look at the two teams ahead of the final, both teams sporting the DC Metro Cricket Organization donated jerseys.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Team Warriors skipper Jadon Birch would have been pleased with the early inroads, but Team West recovered impressively through a commanding innings from Joshua Ho-o-use. The stylish right-hander dominated the scoring, timing the ball sweetly around the park as he anchored the innings with a fluent 49, narrowly missing what would have been a deserved half-century.

Ho-o-use’s knock laid the platform for Team West to post a competitive 115-4 from their allotted overs. While several teammates chipped in with useful starts, none managed to convert them into big score, leaving the responsibility squarely on Ho-o-use’s shoulders. Birch was the pick of the bowlers for Team Warriors, returning a respectable 2-31.

Needing 116 for victory, Team Warriors required a brisk start but found scoring increasingly difficult during the middle stages against a discipline Team West attack.

Narine, however, refused to surrender. Displaying excellent timing and calculated aggression, the top-order batsman kept the chase alive with an outstanding 54, finding the boundary regularly and rotating the strike with maturity. Despite his valiant effort, wickets continued to tumble around him as Team West tightened the screws during the closing overs. Team Warriors eventually reached only 90-5, handing Team West a convincing 25-run triumph and the championship honours.

Meanwhile, Narine’s fighting innings did not go unnoticed, as he was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), becoming part of few recipients of the competition’s newly introduced cash incentive despite finishing on the losing side.

Both finalists were rewarded for their impressive campaigns, receiving cash incentives from the tournament sponsors, while each team was also presented with commemorative jerseys leading up to the championship encounter.

The final attracted a sizeable and vocal crowd, whose enthusiastic support created an electric atmosphere throughout the contest. Representing the DC Metro Cricket Organization, Mr. Winston presented the prizes and praised the standard of cricket displayed, while pledging that the tournament would return “bigger and better” in 2027.

The tournament is coordinated by Uprising Promotions Group under the guidance of James “Father James” Lewis, with sponsorship provided by the United States-based DC Metro Cricket Organization.
