Kaieteur News- A fascinating opening round is highly anticipated in the 2025 Essequibo Softball Cricket League (ESCL) T20, Over-40 competition at two venues on the Essequibo Coast, Region 2 tomorrow, Sunday.
Two matches are slated for Reliance Sports ground with the hosts taking on Devonshire Castle from 9 am while at 1pm at the same venue, defending champions Caribbean Cricket Club 2 will meet up Untouchables.
And across at Richmond facility from 9 am, Richmond United will tackle Essequibo Legends and then at 1 pm also at Richmond, Hibernia Strikes and Queenstown Tigers will do battle.
Chairman of the ESCL Wakeel Layne stated that everything is set and very optimistic that the tournament will be successful again.
He mentioned the champion team will collect $100,000 and a trophy with other attractive and monetary prizes at stake.
Like the previous competitions, it will be a round-robin tournament before the semi-final stage.
Layne also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to all the participating teams and echoed similar sentiments to the sponsors both from Guyana and the USA.
The curtains are expected to come down on May 25 at a venue to be named.
Meanwhile, superstar batsman Patrick Rooplall is set to be on show and will be representing Caribbean Cricket Club 2 again. He is appointed to captain the side as well.
Since the formation of the ESCL in 2021, Rooplall has been the only batsman to register two double-centuries.
The pugnacious right-handed batter Rooplall featured for a number teams over the years in Guyana, USA and Canada to fortify his reputation.
