GTT National Indoor Hockey Championships Potentially fierce battles expected in this year’s edition

The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) will be a buzz of activity from this Monday to next Sunday when the GTT National Indoor Hockey Championships scrums off.

Flashback! Hikers’ Men and Women clinched the GTT National Open titles in 2018.

In the Men’s First Division, 2017 Champions Bounty GCC will be rearing to get on the surface, which will be laid with the international standard tiles and assert their dominance after being bested by the losing finalist Old Fort Lamborghini and Hikers during the group round-robin stage.
Old Fort were very unlucky to lose the First Division Men’s final after leading 4-2 with five minutes to go but goals from Robert France (35th) and a stoppage time penalty stroke (PS) from MVP Aroydy Brandford sent the game to penalties which Hikers won 7-6.
On the distaff side of the first division, perennial favourites; GBTI GCC will have revenge high on their agenda following a fantastic come from behind victory for Hikers spearheaded by last year’s MVP Nicole Eastman.
Despite being dethroned in the First Division categories, GCC still managed three other titles, namely the Over-35 (GCC Vintage), Second Division Women (Bingo GCC Spartans) and Second Division Men (GCC Pitbulls).
However, all of the finals last year were close with the exception of the Over-35 and new champions may emerge in the respective categories. Second Division Women runners-up in 2018, Saints, are fresh off victory in the Bounty Paper Towel – Quicker Picker Upper – Second Division Outdoor Development League while Old Fort Top Form that lost the Second Division Men’s final 4-2 was made of a high percentage of talented youths who are now a year more experienced.
