Pacer Clinton Pestano grabbed four wickets to lead a Guyana Jaguars fight back against Jamaica Scorpions when eight-round of matches in the Cricket West Indies Regional four-day Fran
chise League commenced yesterday.
In reply to Guyana Jaguars first innings score of 158 all out, Jamaica Scorpions were 108-6 at stumps after facing 26 overs at Sabina Park. Pestano had Paul Palmer (00) caught by skipper Leon Johnson before uprooting the stumps of Chadwick Walton (07) to reduced the Scorpions to 7-2. Jermaine Blackwood hit two fours before he was removed by Pestano for 13 before Brandon King (07) fell to Romario Shepherd as the Scorpions slipped into further trouble. Aldaine Thomas (00) was caught at the wicket off Pestano while Derval Green who struck seven fours was removed by Veerasammy Permaul for 40.
Assad Fudadin is unbeaten on 31 with six fours and Kenroy Williams is not out on four. Pestano has so far taken 4-16 from six overs while Permaul has 1-9 and Shepherd 1-20. Earlier, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Chandrapaul Hemraj added 33 for the opening stand after Guyana Jaguars were asked to bat. Hemraj struck five fours before he was caught off Akim Frazer for 23 while Sherfane Rutherford was removed by the same bowler without scoring, leaving the Jaguars at 35-2.
Chanderpaul made 15 before he was taken off Frazer while Vishaul Singh was caught off Reynard Leveridge for 27. Johnson made 24 while Anthony Bramble top scored with 36 including six fours. Shepherd chipped in with 16 while Pestano was left not out on 13 as Frazer claimed 4-69, Jerome Taylor 3-24 and Derval Green 2-31.
At Warner Park, Leeward Islands Hurricanes closed on 296-5 following their insertion against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force. Jahmah Hamilton made 68, Devon Thomas scored 67, Keacy Carty got 44 while Terrance Ward is unbeaten on 64 and Rahkeem Cornwall is not out on 34. Daniel St. Clair has 2-32 and Khary Pierre 2-78.
And at Arnos Vale, Barbados Pride managed 215 all out, batting first. Tevyn Walcott scored 66 while Jonathan Carter made 42, Jomel Warrican 25 and Shamar Brooks 21. Larry Edward captured 3-29, Josh Thomas 3-55 and Sherman Lewis 2-40.
Windward Islands Volcanoes are 49-2 in reply. Kimani Melius is not out on 19; Warrican has 2-12.
