This year’s Diamond Mineral Water (DMW) Hockey Festival, which will be the 14th edition of the international tournament which is hosted by the

The victorious Hikers’ teams that swept the open divisions at the recent national c/ships will be looking to continue their form in this month’s DMW festival.

Old Fort’s Omar Hopkinson takes a penalty corner strike for Supernova during the National C/ships earlier in the month.
Guyana Hockey Board (GHB), is set to hit off with four days of anticipated high intensity competition from November 29th to December 2nd.
Head of the GHB, Philip Fernandes, has indicated that the festival is receiving avid interest from a number of international teams.
The participation of more than one team from both Canada and regional powerhouses Trinidad and Tobago is expected. In the past, clubs from those two countries who have frequented the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) sponsored event have been of the highest caliber and fans are usually wooed by the high standard of hockey which has alternately motivated local squads to raise their level of play.
After a brief hiatus, the festival returned to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall last year after the uneven floor made it almost impossible to play on. However, the acquisition of a ‘plastic tiled floor’ by the GHB in 2017 (used for the Pan American Championships), paved the way for the return of the festival. The tiled surface is of the standard that is seen in gymnasiums all across North America.
In this year’s competition, local powerhouses that Pepsi Hikers, who lost their men’s open title to T&T’s Queen’s Park Hockey Club that were the runners up in 2016, will be looking to regain their crown following last year’s 8-3 defeat to the Islanders.
Hikers’ fresh off their triumph in the GTT National Indoor Championships earlier in this month will be at full strength.
Hikers’ ladies lost 1-0 to the local rivals GBTI GCC after penalties courtesy of stellar goalkeeping by national custodian, Briana Gordon, but after the Hikers’ recent double success in both the men’s and women’s open division at the National Championship, they will definitely fancy carrying over their form to the national championships.
This year’s tournament will be graced with much improved Old Fort squads that will prove a direct title threat in all the divisions.

By Sir Ronald Sanders (Kaieteur News) – When the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran was announced on 7th April, 2026, the immediate reaction across much of the world was relief.
