Coaches association delivers CONCACAF ‘D’ License preparatory course

The GFF coaches and officials involved in the Concacaf ‘D’ License preparatory course.

The Guyana Football Coaches Association provided essential preparatory training for the Concacaf ‘D’ License this weekend, delivering a new two day course designed to help more local coaches attain the internationally-recognised football qualification as part of nationwide capacity building.
The Concacaf ‘D’ License is the basic foundation of professional coaching and equips coaches with the knowledge required to train players according to their age, plan practice sessions and physical training, develop talent and to understand the importance of health and safety.
The preparatory two-day course was delivered by Coaches Association President and GFF Coach
Mentor Sampson Gilbert.
“This weekend has been about training coaches to understand what is required to achieve the
Concacaf ‘D’ License – to educate and enlighten the coaches to really bridge that gap and to enhance their ability to have a higher pass rate,” Gilbert said.
“Over the last two years, with this GFF administration and Technical Director Ian Greenwood, we have gone from zero licensed coaches to 53 Concacaf ‘D’ License qualified coaches. That is a great leap and we are aspiring to have every coach across the country to have the opportunity to develop and to achieve the ‘D’ License.”
The preparatory course consisted of a one-day classroom session at the GFF headquarters followed by a day-long practical workshop at the GDF ground in Georgetown. The GFF
Technical Department provided content and coaching methodology support for the course.
“Over the years, the science of the game would have changed, so with the knowledge gained from the ‘D’ License, we would be able to put that into practice and better prepare our players,” said Dillion Roberts, Secretary of the Coaches Association. “The Guyana Football Federation and the Coaches Association would have been working together for quite some time now and, going forward, this is vital for the development of coaches.”
