Five new faces among Green Machine’s lineup for Barbados clash
Kaieteur Sports – Major changes headline Guyana’s squad for this weekend’s crucial Rugby Americas North (RAN) 15s clash against Barbados, with five fresh faces earning selection for the Green Machine’s traveling roster.
The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has injected new talent into the national setup as Jamal Junior, Osbert Robertson, Julius Jardim, and USA-based duo Kevin Braithwaite and Tyrese Prescod have all secured places in the squad. The quintet will have an immediate opportunity to make their mark as Guyana looks to begin its campaign on a winning note.

The inclusion of the five newcomers represents one of the most notable changes to the national team and underscores the union’s efforts to strengthen the squad ahead of a demanding regional schedule.
Guyana is scheduled to depart for Barbados on June 6 before returning home for its next fixture against Trinidad and Tobago.
GRFU President Ryan Gonsalves said the additions were made to bolster the team despite the challenges preparations have faced due to inclement weather.
“The weather has us bad, it has us under a lot of pressure in terms of having a comfortable place to train. The team has been working hard, we are working despite the conditions and we are pretty much confident in how the guys are looking. They are looking really good, they are working to the system and putting it together on Saturday. I do have all the confidence we are going to beat Barbados this weekend,” Gonsalves stated.
He added that the foundation has already been laid, with execution now resting in the hands of the players.
“They just have to have that in their head and play decent rugby and play what is in front of them, and once they do the basic stuff right, definitely, why not? Because the game is for the taking. They are prepared, and they are working towards a system and structure; it is just about getting it done.”
The squad will once again be captained by Rondel McArthur and includes local standouts Renaldo Niles, Rickford Cummings, Odida Douglas, Lionel Holder, Akino James, Shawn David, James Osborne, Godfrey Broomes, Gavin McPherson, Phibian Joseph and Owen Adonis.
They will be joined by overseas-based players Christian Klass of Great Britain, USA-based Vallon Adams and Godfrey Pollydore, Canadian-based Sebastian Manifie, and the five newcomers who will be eager to make an impact in Barbados as Guyana seeks a vital victory on the road.
