WDCA President’s Cup… Wales trash Malvern by 204 runs in reduced game – Shun hits 203*

The West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) President’s Cup 50-over tournament continued last Sunday with three matches despite the inclement weather.
At the Wales Community Centre ground, there was a late start due to overnight and early morning rain which forced the game to be reduced to 32 overs per side.
The hosts had first strike and finished on a mammoth 308 for 1 from their 32 overs. Ryan Shun hit a pugnacious 203 not out and featured in a massive 277-run unbroken second wicket partnership with Mahase Persaud who ended on 51 not out. The pair got together with the score on 31 for 1.
In the onslaught, only Charwine McPherson with 1 for 40 got in the wickets column bowling for Malvern Sports Club. The visitors’ fortune never changed and with the bat they were shot out for a paltry 104 in just 19 overs, falling short by a whopping 204 runs.
Only Ghamsham Hardyal showed some batting pedigree with 45 as Brian Puran picked up three wickets for no run, while Kevin Lindo supported with 2 for 5.
Over at the Zeeburg Sports Club ground, the home team made 219 all out in 29 overs against Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ in another game that was reduced due to rain. Mark Jeffers hit the top score of 76 and gained valuable support from Ricardo Poloram who made 56.
Bowling for the visitors, Emmanuel Crishnauth snared 4 for 36, while Martin Reynolds bagged 2 for 31.
In reply, Meten-Meer-Zorg fell short by 95 runs as they fell for 124 from 25 overs. The only batsman to make it to double figures was Shawin Jairaj with 13. Jeffers came back with the ball to grab 4 for 18 and got useful support from Malcolm Hubbard with 2 for 39.
The other match of the day saw All Youths Sports Club ‘A’ defeating Sawpit at the Canal Number One ground.
The tournament continues tomorrow with five matches. At Wales C. Ambass Sports Club take on Malvern SC, All Youths Sports Club ‘B’ battle All Stars at Canal Number Two ground, Independence Sports Club battle Sawpit at Joe Vieira Park, Cornelia Ida come up against Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘B’ at the Meten-Meer-Zorg Sports Club ground, while Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ battle Windsor Forest at the Zeeburg Sports Club ground.
