Balram Narine wins FACC, Pre National Cycle Road Race in Berbice

Promising cyclist, Balram Narine of Upper Corentyne emerged winner of the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) 30-mile Pre National School Boys Cycle Road Race. A member of the organizing club, Narine dominated proceedings as he defeated the 18-man field in One Hour 5 Minutes.
The event got under at 10:00hrs from the Vishal and Sons Sawmill at Crabwood Creek, proceeded to No. 52 Bridge before turning back to finish at the place of origin. Taking the 2nd place was Odrel Ross followed by Graham Ross, Ralph Seenarine and Delwin Bowman to close out the top five. Steve Bhowandin continues to impress as he took first in the Under-14 category ahead of Ganesh Joseph, Mario Washington and Marlon Budram. Shaneika Teixeira was outstanding among the females; the Under-14 and female cyclists rode from No. 66 Bridge to the finish line.
There were two races for BMX riders. The 9-12 event was won by Sachin Karan from Jerrol Daniels who was followed to the line by Daniel Blair and Hassan Hussein. The top BMX 6-9 rider was Lumesh Singh followed by Godfrey Daniels and Afaan Blair. The BMX races were held from Dean Business Establishment to the finish line. The event was used as preparation for cyclists of District 6 – Corentyne and District 15 – New Amsterdam/Canje who are preparing for the Annual National School Track and Field, Athletics, Cycling and Swimming Championships scheduled for the Leonard Track and Field Facility, West Demerara.
Both Districts, in particular Corentyne which are the defending champions, have been doing exceptionally well over the years at the National Schools event. Trophies and prizes were presented to the top performers after the race by School Teacher Ms. Dollis Johnson and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Guy Nurse.
