RHTYSC/Busta Champion of Champions Softball Semis, Finals scheduled for tomorrow

The Area ‘H’ Ground in Guyana’s smallest township, Rose Hall Town would be a buzz of activities with the Finals of the 2017 Busta Champion of Champions Softball Tournament tomorrow. The Tournament is organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, Cricket Development Committee as part of its highly successful Say No/Say Yes Campaign which targets 60,000 youths in the ancient county of Berbice. Under the campaign, youths are advised to Say No to Drugs, Crime, Suicide, Alcohol and Yes to Education, Life, Religion and Sports.
The day’s event would get cracking with a Female match at 09.30 hours between Rose Hall Town Metro and the Trophy Stall Female Team. The Rose Hall Team would include Shemaine Campbelle, Erva Giddings, Shanetta Grimmond, Shabita Gajnabi, Sherica Campbelle, Uma Matadin and Plaffiana Millington among others. The game would be a ten Overs affair.
The first Semi-final would feature Grill Masters of Fort Ordinance, Canje, playing Terry Grocery XI of Rose Hall Town. Grill Master, one of the tournament’s favourite would be spearheaded by skipper Roy Jaferally, Keon Sinclair, the hard hitting Vishal Phillips, all-rounder Keith Fraser and the dependence former national junior cricketer Balram Samaroo. Terry Grocery XI would be led by the experienced Michael Hicks, a former Berbice Under-15 and Under-19 player. He would be supported by Khemraj Mahadeo and Delbert Hicks (both former national junior cricketers), Jamal Jarvis, Devindra Prittipal and Neil Pike.
The second Semi-final would be played between Spartan of Cumberland, Canje, and the Hard Knock Team of Ulverston. Veteran Softball player David Lucknauth would lead Spartan and would be backed up by Krishan and Ryan Subhai, Sunil Madrmutoo, Ramnarine Jugisteer and Kishan Gangaram. Hard Knock, the best fielding team in the competition would be led by skipper Nicholas Chase and would include players like Paul Tyndall, Eldeen Mendonza, Michael Tyndall, Sheide Cameron and Adrian Velloza.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster hailed the outstanding work of the Cricket Development Committee and expressed confidence that the Finals would be a success. The Guyana Beverage Company under the Busta Brand has been sponsoring the Tournament since 2004 but the 2017 Edition is the first to be played using the Softball format.
The Winning Team would take home $150,000 and the Busta Cup, the 1st Runner-up $75,000 and trophy, 2nd Runner-up $50,000 and trophy, while the Man of the Finals would also receive a prize. Lucky Patrons attending the Finals would also receive special prizes.
