Cantering into the quarter finals of the GT Beer Keep Your 5 Alive knock-out Futsal competition which continued on Tuesday night last at the National Gymnasium were Sparta Boss, North Ruimveldt, Leopold Street and West Front Road (Goal is Money) which registered the biggest win on the night.
Led by the Pedro siblings, West Front Road were in a no nonsense mood as they inflicted a 9-2 drubbing of Newtown Kitty in the night’s opening encounter. By the time Newtown Kitty got on the scores sheets for the first time in the match, the Pedro’s had already combined for sevn of the nine goal. Omar Pedro opened the scoring in the 5th minute and completed his double in the 24th minute. Jamal Pedro had tipped in two of his hat-trick in the 13th and 14th minute while Hubert had tucked in three of his helmet-trick with strikes in the 17th, 19th and 23rd minute.
Jamal Williams scored both goals for Newtown (25, 27) but by then it was a situation of the horse already bolting out of the stables a long time ago. The seven goal cushion was restored with another goal each from Jamal in the 26th and Hubert in the 30th minute. Sparta, made light work of Broad Street in the main attraction of the evening, romping to a 4-1 win on account of goals from Devon Millington who banged in a brace, Solomon Austin and Sheldon Shepherd. Leopold Street was pushed to the hilt by Bent Street but managed to hold on for a narrow 2-1 win. Sheldon Profitt in the 16th minute and Omallo Williams four minutes later were the players hitting the back of the nets for Leopold Street. Bent Street’s consolation goal came off the boot of Travis Allen. And, Future Stars ensured their future, at least in the quarter finals was cemented with a 3-1 win over North Ruimveldt.
Meanwhile, the final set of quarter final matches are set for tomorrow at the same venue and will serve up some exciting action.
One of the much anticipated clashes will see new Guinness Greatest of the Streets champions, Linden’s Dave and Celina All Stars aiming to add this championship to the collection when they come up against Tiger Bay in the evening’s third match.
The feature match pits Back Circle against Riddim Squad with main supporting play between Show Stoppers and Tucville. The curtain raiser at 20:00hrs brings together Upsetters against Muslim Brothers and this will be followed by a showdown between Kitty and Alexander Village.
