More than three months have passed since 42-year-old Oswald Rambarran was gunned down just after delivering a meal in King Edward Street, Albouystown and the investigations into his death appear grounded.
The 007 taxi driver was shot in the head around 21:30 hrs on September 11, last, when he went to the area to drop off a meal for a relative.
Investigators have reportedly worked on a number of leads but no one has been able to definitively point to who was responsible for the man’s death.
Days after the taxi driver was gunned down, the police arrested several persons but they were all released after 72 hours because there was no evidence linking them to the fatal shooting. Statements were taken from eyewitnesses.
Rambarran, also known as ‘Downs’ of Middle Road, La Penitence, was shot in the head around 21:30hrs while drinking with a resident of Lot 139 King Edward Street, Albouystown, and two other men, who fled the scene unharmed.
Kaieteur News understands that detectives have taken statements from three individuals, one of whom witnessed the shooting.
A police source said that six spent shells were recovered from the crime scene.
It is alleged that after dropping off the meal, Rambarran sat at a table outside the house with the resident and two others.
They were reportedly drinking when two men rode up on motorcycles, drew guns and opened fire, hitting Rambarran in the head.
The father of four died shortly after at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Based on reports, in June 2008, Rambarran was remanded to prison on a charge of escaping from lawful custody. It was alleged that he escaped from the GPHC, where he was being treated for gunshot wounds that year.
According to reports, Rambarran was shot during a high speed chase with police on mobile patrol after he and an accomplice were caught forcing a man into the trunk of a motorcar.
