A fine all-round performance by Chandrika Ragnauth guided G Square Cavaliers Sports Club to 47-run victory over Maria’s Pleasure SC when the G Square Cavaliers SC T20 tournament continued yesterday at Belle Plaine, Wakenaam.
Ragnauth slammed a fine half century and returned to take two wickets as G Square Cavaliers booked their place in the final which will be contested on Tuesday.
Ragnauth added 100 for the sixth wicket with Shatrughan Shiwnandan as G Square Cavaliers posted 171-7 off their reduced quota of 15 overs, batting first. Impressive fast bowler Leorayan Ramlakhan and medium pacer Leonard Lewis reduced G Square Cavaliers to 40-4 before Ragnauth steadied the innings with level headed batting in hazy conditions. He shared in a fifth wicket stand of 45 with Kamal Khan before Khan was dismissed for 35 including two fours and three sixes. Ragnauth was then joined by Shiwnandan and the pair carried their team to a challenging total. Ragnauth slammed five sixes and four fours in an unbeaten 54, while Shiwnandan was dismissed for 49 which contained three fours and five sixes. Bernard Lewis and Ramlakhan claimed two wickets each while there was once each for Leonard Lewis and Kennard Lewis.
Bernard Lewis hit a cameo 34 at the top of the order to give Maria’s Pleasure a decent start; he struck two fours and four sixes before he was brilliant caught at mid wicket by Dayawant Shiwnandan off Ragnauth. Following his demise Maria’s Pleasure lost a few quick wickets before Marsh Singh and Mark Lewis kept them in the hunt with a sixth wicket stand of 60. While Singh was content to rotate the strike Lewis was robust; he hit two fours and a similar number of sixes before he was taken in the deep off Dayawant Shiwnandan for 27 off 19 balls.
Consistent bowling by G Square Cavaliers thereafter ensured their team a place in the final. Singh remained unbeaten on 21 (1×4,2×6) as Maria’s Pleasure were bowled out for 124 in 13.4 overs. Ragnauth captured 3-24, Satesh Sahadeo 2-23 and Dayawant Shiwnandan 2-19.
Maria’s Pleasure will now take on Sans Souci in the next play- off game with the winner going through to the final.
