counterparts in Manaus, Brazil at the organization’s international headquarters to engage in the fourth annual Jungle Meeting, during September 21 to 25.
Capoeira is a Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, sports, and music. It was created in Brazil mainly by descendants of African slaves with Brazilian native influences, probably beginning in the sixteenth century.
According to Jeffrey Walcott, one of the local members, though the workshop played a vital part of the visit, members were able to witness their brothers and sisters graduate to another level or achieve their cords. He recounted that earlier in the year, the Guyanese members received theirs but that was done in Guyana.
It was noted that the meeting allowed the exchange in Capoeira movements, cultural exchange, and build linkages among members of the various countries. Walcott emphasised that the daily interactions and the members sparring together have helped tremendously. (Keeran Singh)
