Kaieteur Sports – Blueberry Hill/Alleys/Valleys/Christianburg was crowned the inaugural Champion following a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout win over Half Mile/One Mile/Scheme, in the Linden Town Week Inter Ward football final.
Held at the new Bayrcok National Stadium and promoted by the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation in collaboration with the governing Upper Demerara Football Association, the champion finished the tourney with an unblemished record.
On a night which saw football fans throng the newest sports facility across Guyana, the holiday mood was evident from the opening kick after the two teams were introduced to a team of special invitees, which included Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. and Linden Town Clerk Lennox Gasper.

The expectant Wismar crowd showed up in their numbers, overflowing the red and blue stands, which added much to the holiday atmosphere.
The inform Clinton Charles would be the one to open the scoring when he put his side Half Mile/One Mile/Scheme into a 1-0 lead, from a jabbing shot which scored in the 39th minute, and caused much celebration from their supporters.

Anxiety was spread across the two stands as the experienced Colwyn Drakes would tuck home the equaliser in the 84th minute for the eventual champion.
In the next six ensuing minutes, there were gasps as chances went awry to the disappointment of the jubilant spectators.
The referee then ruled that there would be no extra time play, but penalties would decide the winners.
After four shots by the two sides, the scores were tied 3-3, but Half Mile/ One Mile/Scheme would not score their last shot as Blueberry Hill notched up a successful goal to finish as victors 4-3, which sparked celebrations for their fans.
With the champions getting $1M compliments of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament was Kendolph Lewis from the winning Blueberry Hill/ Alleys/ Valleys/Christianburg side, who received a trophy and $100,000, which was donated by Bernard’s Variety Store.
For being runners-up, Half Mile/ One Mile/ Scheme collected $400,000 and a trophy, while Amelia’s Ward/ Kara Kara/ Bamia got $200,000 for beating West Watooka/ Canvas City in the third-place playoff game, as the losers got $150,000.
The Highest Goal Scorer was Marcus Tudor with five goals representing Half Mile/ One Mile/ Scheme. He collected $56,000 from the donor Lennox Gasper.
The best Goalkeeper award went to Delon Adams, and he collected a pair of gloves compliments of Ian Deviera and $50,000 from Bella’s Lumber Yard.
Jamal Bentick of Amelia’s Ward / Kara Kara / Bamia received the Best Goal celebration from ‘Grandpa’ Harvey, with the Youngest Player Award going to 16-year-old Travon Guillaume, who played for Amelia’s Ward/Kara Kara/ Bamia. He was awarded $20,000 and a trophy donated by Unique Essentials.
The player with the most goals from Blueberry Hill was Shane Luckie, who got a voucher from United States-based Rawle Johnson. The player who netted the first goal of the tournament was Clinton Charles. He received $100,000 from Bella’s Lumber Yard.
