In another display of generosity Giftland Office Max confirmed its support for the second year running of the President’s /Jefford Track & Field Classic when Marketing Manager Compton Babb handed over a cheque for an undisclosed sum to Co-ordinator Edison Jefford yesterday, at the Company’s Head Office on Water Street.
Babb in brief remarks shortly after presenting the cheque told this newspaper that the Company is exceptionally happy to once again partner with the Organisers, adding that from all reports, last year’s inaugural event was an overwhelming success and they obviously felt compelled to be associated after such an achievement.
“The continuous success of sport comes through the dedication of athletes and those sponsors who make it all happen,” Babb said.
He informed that as a good corporate entity they are always seeking avenues to offer support and since the Organisers have indicated that the event has a bright future, especially for the development of local athletes, it became necessary for them to be back on board.
Jefford in his response first thanked the Company for its continued support and show of confidence in the Classic, adding that as was the case last year, they are putting everything in place to ensure that this year’s edition exceeds that of the previous one in every regard.
To confirm this, Jefford pointed to the anticipated attendance of world class Guyanese middle distance star Aliann Pompey as a reference to the high quality of competitors and competition that track & field fans could expect come May 22, at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
