Parika Salem defeated Uprising by 122 runs to win the final of the Naresh Ramkissoon twenty/20 cricket competition played on Sunday at Parika on the East Bank of Essequibo.
Parika Salem won the toss and elected to bat first in front of a fair sized crowd which included past President of the Essequibo Cricket Board Alvin Johnson and national selector Claude Raphael.
Jason Heliger 56, Mark Braithwaite 40, Yogister Bachan 38 and Sase Narine 25 were their leading run scorers as they piled up 210-5 off their allotted overs. Vinood Dhaniram took 2-34.
Uprising, in reply, could only muster 88 before they were bowled out in 14 overs. Azharudeen Singh made 16 as national pacer Trevor Benn picked up 2-18 off 4 overs for the winners.
Heyliger received the man-of-the-match award, while Parika Salem who are being coached by Vibert Johnson, collected the winning prize. Uprising took the runner-up trophy. Vergenoegen carted off the third prize.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Alvin Johnson, who is also the president of the East Bank Essequibo cricket committee, congratulated the winners and said he is pleased to see Uprising taking part in cricket competitions once again after an absence of three years.
He also thanked the sponsors for coming on board.
Meanwhile, Ruby lost to Vergenoegen in the third place playoff. Ruby made 115 all out in 18 overs and Vergenoegen replied with 116-5 in 15 overs. (Zaheer Mohamed)
