-Sukhram leads the Ladies
2006 winner Avinash Persaud took pole position at the end of the first day of this year’s Power Stout Guyana Open Golf Tournament which is being played, at the Lusignan Course.
Playing on the 0-9 flight and off a 1 handicap, Persaud closed the day with a gross 74 and a net 73 to lead Mohanlall Dinanath, who finished with a gross 76 and a net 75 after starting the day on a 1 handicap.
Imran Khan with a gross 77 and a net 74 from a 3 handicap rounded out the top three positions.
In the 10-17 Flight, Ian Gouveia with a gross 81 off a 12 handicap led Canadian High Commissioner Francois Montour, who shot a gross 83 from a 17 handicap, while Seu Paul is joint second heading into the final day on a gross 83 from a 10 handicap.
Maurice Solomon leads the 18-23 Flight after closing with a gross 89 from an 18 handicap and he is followed by Gavin Todd with a gross 90 from a 19 handicap, while Ayube Subhan occupies third with a gross 91 from a 20 handicap.
Gerts Heikens won the 18-28 Flight on the count back after finishing on 19 points, the same as Jorge Medina.
Top Ladies golfer Christine Sukhram heads the field in that category with a gross 90 and net 83 after starting with a 7 handicap.
She is ahead of rising sensation Joaan Deo, who recorded a gross 93 and a net 69 from a 24 handicap, while Surinamese N. Kim is stationed third with a gross 99 and a net 75 from a 24 handicap.
According to reports, some 78 golfers registered for the tournament which is scheduled to conclude today.
Among those participating in the Banks DIH sponsored event are Chairman Clifford Reis, realtor Alfred Mentore, William Walker, Brian Hackett, Dr. Ram Singh and Colin Ming.
