West Berbcie beat Rose Hall Canje yesterday by 6 wickets but still lost out on a semi-final spot to Bermine on net run in the Berbice zone of the National Neal & Massy 40-overs 1st division cricket competition.
In today’s county semi-finals, National defending champions and zone ‘A’ winners Young Warriors oppose zone ‘B’ runner-up Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) at Cumberland and zone ‘B’ champions Albion battle Bermine at Albion.
Both matches start at 11:00hrs and the winners will clash in the final on Saturday to decide the Berbice winner and runner-up.
Yesterday, Canje made 171 in 33.2 overs with Vedesh Singh hitting an unbeaten 59 and Rocky Bispat 29. Krishnadat Ramoo took 4-30 and Colin Duke 2-31 for West Berbice who made 175-4 in 29 overs in reply with Keith Fraser continuing his fine form with 56.
A ding dong battle is anticipated at Cumberland today since Young Warriors have been strengthened with the inclusion of Paul Wintz and Maxie Dejonge.
Their batting will center round De Jonge, Richard Ramdeen, Farook Hussain, Waheid Hussain, Anil Beharry, Hubern Evans and Wintz while Wintz, left-arm pacer Devendra Ramoutar, Beharry, Hussain, Evans and Ramdeen should take care of the bowling.
RHTWB’s fight with the bat should come from national left-hander Assad Fudadin, Renrick Batson, Delbert Hicks, Khemraj Mahadeo, Eon Hooper and the potentially destructive Esuan Crandon.
Crandon should spearhead the bowling attack with support from Mahadeo, Hooper, Fudadin and Troy Mathieson.
At Albion, Test left-handers Sewnarine Chattergoon and Narsingh Deonarine lead a powerful Albion batting line which also includes Guyana under-19 player Jonathon Foo, Harrinarine Chattergoon and Ranga Latchana. First-Class spinner Veerasammy Permaul, Davendra Bishoo and Deonarine along with Foo and Chattergoon should handle the Albion bowling.
Bermine will hope for useful contributions with the bat from the in-form Anthony D’Andrade, former Guyana youth skipper Eugene La Fleur, his brother Jomal LaFluer, Devon Clements, national under-17 batsman Jamally Odle, Skipper Jillian Moore and Keon DeJesus.
The spin-based Bermine attack will include the LaFluer brothers, Clements, left-arm spinner Troy Mickle, former Guyana off-spinner Sean Devers and Charles Shepard.
