In a clash of junior national basketball titans, Yannick Dundas will square off against his counterpart, Richard Mohandatt today when the curtains come down on the inaugural President’s College School Championships.
President’s College chalked up two victories yesterday in the East Coast preliminaries of the School Based Assessment (SBA) project tournament to follow Bishops High School that advanced on Tuesday in Georgetown prelims.
Mohandatt, representing President’s College and Dundas from Bishops’, made the former junior national Inter–Guiana Games team last year after dominant performances in the annual Summer Schools’ Basketball tournament.
The two will be on opposing teams today when both sides clash in a riveting final at the President’s College court. Kaieteur Sport was informed that Bladen Hall Secondary will play Saint Stanislaus College in the preceding game.
Though Mohandatt and Dundas are obvious stars on the two teams for the feature game, a keen contest is expected from the support cast, including Bishops’ Tesrick Rambissoon and President College’s, Willon Cameron.
But more than the usual one–on–one match–ups the players are reminded that basketball is a team sport, which means that every player must get involve on both ends of the court in an effort to claim the championship trophy.
All four teams in the final–four receive awards with the teams playing in the final getting additional medals for their participation. The tournament plays a crucial role in awarding Caribbean Examination Council grades.
In yesterday’s East Coast prelims, Bladen Hall won 32–6 against Cove and John while in the second game President’s College embarrassed Golden Grove 54–8. Bladen Hall went down 15–62 to President’s College in game three.
