The Parrot recalls old people referring to proverbs as “parables”. By the way, when last you hear that word? It old; even Uncle Adam don’t use it.
Those who are au fait with proverbs can have a conversation just using them. This probably might have been prevalent long ago.
I dare say that today, the younger generation has little or no understanding of these colloquial expressions; they may even consider it another language. That might be a little far-fetched, but there are many today who do not understand their meanings.
Of course there are those who do but sometimes forget; sometimes conveniently; sometimes the meaning(s) “hit hard”.
Today it seems that a new set of expressions/proverbs exist. To the older generation this seems like another language. Right Uncle Adam?
Whichever the “language”, old or new, we still possess, well a vast majority of us, the ability to analyze and comprehend what is being said or written.
Reading a recent rant by Uncle Freddie, a few proverbs immediately came to mind; “do so, nah like so”; “knock got knock back”, “who wear the shoes does feel the pinch”, and “do fuh do nah obeah”. They, the proverbs that is, seem apt to describe Uncle Freddie’s outrage at letters written by Jean Ramroop and Jean Rosen.
Jean “tek on” Uncle Freddie by replying to him, and as old people does seh, “Jean put he to he place”. The young people would say, “Jean put it on pun he”. Uncle Freddie took umbrage and was …., can’t use that word for public consumption, at Jean. He provided a long-winded description of who he knows Jean to be.
Uncle Freddie, after reading the letters by the Jeans, immediately concluded that the two Jeans are one and is a senior operative from the current administration.
Here is a man, Uncle Freddie that is, who meticulously questioned the methodology used by the Bisram fellow to conduct his polls; methodology that led invariably to accurate predictions of international elections. Bisram was “taken to task” for his poll by Uncle Freddie. Hmmm. How did that sound? Anyway, that’s well documented.
Given Uncle Freddie’s interest on how others make their conclusions, I would like to ask him what methodology he used to conclude that the Jeans are one and operate out of the ruling Party’s headquarters?
Why couldn’t it be Jean, the icicle vendor? Jean the seamstress? Jean the fish seller? Should I believe that anyone who replies to Uncle Freddie and “hits” him hard automatically is an operative of the ruling party?
Should I believe that Uncle Freddie believes that only people from the ruling Party would write countering his views?
What about Mark? He was recently seen countering Uncle Freddie on television. Obviously he is not from the ruling party. How come Uncle Freddie knows that the Jeans might be fictitious?
Why those who “tek” on Uncle Freddie are fictitious to him? Why? Tell us the methodology Uncle Freddie. Bisram wants to know too.
Whoever Jean is and wherever she may be, she “knock” Uncle Freddie hard. De young boys seh that Uncle Freddie and Jean not “tight”.
Dem other boys seh that since the Jean letter, Uncle Freddie has indicated that from now he writing in proverbs so that if Jean is from the younger generation, she wouldn’t understand. Wishful thinking.
Dem same boys seh that Uncle Freddie plans to stop wearing Jeans; he claim it suffocating he; Jean “got he in a lack”. How it feel Uncle Freddie? Can’t “stand the taste of yuh own medicine?
