Allrounder Anthony Persaud hit a fine century as his team Devonshire castle defeated Walton Hall by 103 runs as the Sheriff Memorial 20/20 cricket competition continued in North Essequibo last Sunday with six matches.
Persaud top scored with 104 and got support from Dhashan Lall 45 as the home team Devonshire Castle rattled up 207 for 3 off their allotted 20 overs. Sunil Persaud picked up 2 for 37 for Walton Hall who were dismissed for 124 in 20 overs.
Dinesh Anirood made 35 and Suruj Sookdeo scored 22 while Basil Persaud captured 4 – 24 and Fazal Hussain 2 – 19 for the victors.
At the same venue the host went down to Ravens by 29 runs. Ravens batted first and made 118 all out in 19.5 overs with Laxmikant Narine hitting 33 and Mahendranauth Bennett 22. Leg spinner Ramesh Narine captured 3 for 11 while Brian Persaud supported with 2 for 25.
Devonshire Castle in reply were skittled out for 85 in 18 overs. Persaud returned with the bat to top score with 20 as Poonraj Singh with 3 – 9 and Tribuwan Roopnarine 3 – 20 did the damaged with the ball for Ravens. In other matches played Walton Hall, Gunners and Ravens recorded victories.
Scores: At Devonshire Castle; Walton Hall defeated Sparta by 4 wickets (Sparta 77 all out in 19 overs, Walton Hall 78 – 4 in 16 overs).
At Anna Regina; Gunners defeated Danielstown by 4 wickets. (Daniels Town 129 – 9 in 20 overs) Gunners 129 – 6 in 17 overs.
At Cotton field, Ravens defeated Essequibo Technical Institute by 17 runs, Ravens 143 – 8 in 20 overs (Rawl Reid 40, Elroy Stephney 27, Nicholas Azeez 2 – 21, Richard Narine 2 – 29) E’bo Technical Institute 126 – 9 in 20 overs / Rohan Persaud 41, Floyd Henry 30, Thakur Samlall 4 – 12, Poonraj Singh 2 – 15)
The competition, which continues on Sunday, is played in Memory of Mr. Sheriff Khan Snr a former businessman of the Essequibo Coast. (Zaheer Mohamed)
