Kaieteur Sports – Guyana Harpy Eagles all-rounder Keemo Paul was yesterday officially added to the West Indies Test squad ahead of the second match against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
Paul, with 3 Test matches under his belt, was expected to join the squad ahead of today’s training session, as the West Indies finalize preparations for the 2nd Test, which bowls off on Friday.
Game one featured an emphatic performance by the West Indies, who defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs.

In-form Guyana Harpy Eagles all-rounder Keemo Paul could likely feature in the 2nd Test match having being added to the West Indies squad recently.
The Windies selection panel then bolstered their options by calling up the 28-year-old, who has carved a solid limited-overs career with 30 ODI’s and 23 T20I’s under his belt but will now have another shot at reviving his international career following this recent drafting.
Almost 2 years after stamping his name in the history books alongside fellow Guyanese when the West Indies Under-19 team won the 2016 World Cup, Paul and ironically now senior West Indies players/teammates in his current Harpy Eagles captain Tevin Imlach and the dynamic Shimron Hetmyer, would all meet years down the line again as current members of the West Indies Senior structure.
The Essequibian, who would get his international breakthrough a few seasons later in 2018, earned his recent recall to the fold, on the heels of a highly productive domestic season in the West Indies Regional Championship, where the Eagles all-rounder ended with 13 wickets at an average of 21.00 to go along with his 212 runs which he accumulated across roughly a handful of games.
After regaining his form in both departments thanks to a strong return to form in the Regional 4-Day Championships, Paul’s inclusion now offers the Men in Maroon a fresher, more dynamic, 5th fast-medium bowling option to go alongside the likes of Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales.
His prowess as a dangerous lower-order batsman will also play a huge role given the need for a more counter-attacking option at the number 6/7 position for the longer format.
After bagging the T20 series and now seemingly cementing their dominance in this Test skirmish, West Indies will look to secure a clean sweep having won the first match which should easily add to their momentum heading into Friday’s first day of battle in the second match. (Clifton Ross)
