Kaieteur Sports – Two crucial yet entertaining half-century knocks from the Guyanese duo of Sherfane Rutherford and Shimron Hetmyer helped the West Indies defy the odds to pull off a win last night by wickets in the last ODI encounter of the series.
Batting first on a good Kensington Oval surface, the New Zealanders posted a stiff 268-9 from their 50 overs; anchored by a string of classy half-centuries knocks.

Seasoned batter Tom Latham (71 x 69 balls), finally got to a significant milestone after being in good form ever since the series started; stroking 6 fours and a maximum during his time out in the middle.
Support came from Nick Kelly, who hit a solid 64 as opener Will Young (56) earlier set the tone with his busy knock.
Led by fast-bowler Alzarri Joseph, who spearheaded the attack with 2-38 from his 10 overs, West Indies had a reasonable time with the leather, as rookie leg-spinner Vitel Lawes (2-63) continuing on his upward trajectory, with a scalp each for pacers Matthew Forde/ Jayden Seales and spinner Gudakesh Motie.

West Indies then sought to wrap the series up on a high note by finishing on 269-8 in 47.3 overs.
Power-hitter Sherfane Rutherford spanked a bullish 61 which featured 5 sixes and two fours; finding help from a string of batters.
Ackeem Auguste (34) and Justin Greaves (22) provided a good fifty partnership at the top.
Keacy Carty (20) and Shai Hope (39) also looked good but it was top-scorer Hetmyer, who helped the Windies gun down the target after striking 4 sixes and a couple fours in his
Leading spinner Jayden Lennox (3-35) was the life of the game again, finding some help from pacer Jacob Duffy (3-67).
Hetmyer who returned mid-series, counter-punched with 2 fours and four big sixes which not only brought up his return to ODI half-century after a while out of the team; but more importantly carved out a winning performance by one of the more senior players in the side during a time of dire need.
